Key FMCSA Updates to the Unsafe Driver Basic Enters Phase 2
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is set to enhance its Safety Measurement System (SMS) by replacing the original Behavior Analysis and Safety Improvement Categories (BASICs) with updated “compliance categories.” A significant change involves integrating the Controlled Substances/Alcohol violations, previously a standalone category, into the Unsafe Driving compliance category. This reorganization aims to streamline the assessment of unsafe driving behaviors, encompassing both traditional unsafe driving infractions and those related to substance use.
