FMCSA Advances to Phase 2: Key Changes to CSA Basics
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is refining its Safety Measurement System (SMS) by transitioning from the original Behavior Analysis and Safety Improvement Categories (BASICs) to new compliance categories. One of the most notable updates includes merging Controlled Substances/Alcohol violations into the Unsafe Driving compliance category, eliminating its previous standalone status. This shift is designed to enhance efficiency in identifying high-risk driving behaviors, consolidating traditional unsafe driving infractions with substance-related offenses.

CSA Minutes

CSA Hours of Service
This series discusses the updated Hours of Service regulations, including the 14-hour window, 11-hour limit, 60-70 hour limit, 30-minute break and 34 hour restart, on-duty time, travel time, off-duty time, the sleeper berth provision, the driver’s daily logbook, and the interstate truck driver guide to HOS.
